An Introduction To My Blog...

After attending the Columbia Publishing Program, I learned that there is so much more that goes into the success of a book than just its author and a great idea. The book publishing industry is a business that brings many people joy, but it cannot survive on joy alone. Publishing houses and literary agencies need to think about this book as a product that they can market and sell. Who is the audience? How should we publicize this book? Does it make sense on our book list? All key questions that go into the adoption or rejection of a book.

My blog takes a unique approach to book reviews, analyzing recent reads through the lens of an employee at a publishing house. Should you buy this book? That’s the question I want to help you answer. Whether it’s a bestseller I grabbed off the shelves of Barnes and Noble or a hidden gem recommended by a friend, I will be writing reviews of these books from a different position than the average opinion-based “Goodreads” review. I’ll explore what the book is about, what existing books it is like, and who its target audience might be.

I am easily entertained by most genres and narratives, so this will be an interesting project for me. However, I plan to keep the bias minimal and the spoilers censored so readers can make an informed decision about whether they should read it or leave it.
